Limerick TD demands Dáil debate on immigration

Limerick Independent Ireland TD Richard O'Donoghue

THE Government’s unwillingness to allow debate on the financial or social impact of its open-door policy on immigration is “reckless”.

That’s the view of Rural Independent Limerick TD Richard O’Donoghue who said that the issue should be discussed calmly and rationally, given the foreseeable consequences “that are coming down the tracks”.

“I know, through Public Expenditure Minister, Michael McGrath, that at the very least this is going to cost the State hundreds of millions of euros, which is a gross underestimate of the real costs”, the Limerick TD added.

“We know from media leaks that one estimated figure given to Government Ministers indicated for every 1,000 Ukrainian refugees accommodated in a hotel it will cost €33 million every year”.
