Five arrested over assault of Limerick man who died in hospital

GARDAร are questioning five men in connection with an assault on Kilmallock man Dylan McCarthy in County Kildare last month.

The 29 year-old died shortly after he sustained serious injuries during the alleged assault outside a pub in Monasterevin on August 21.

Mr McCarthyโ€™s father, Eamon, was treated in hospital for non life-threatening injuries allegedly sustained during the same incident.

The father and son had been attending a family gathering following the birth of Dylan McCarthyโ€™s nephew Liam, when an alleged altercation occurred involving a group of people.

In a statement issued earlier today, a Garda spokesman said that “as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident of serious assault in Monasterevin on August 21, Gardaรญ arrested five men this morning.

โ€œThe men, all aged in their 20s are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at multiple Garda Stations in County Kildare”.

He added that โ€œinvestigations are ongoingโ€.

On September 6, Gardaรญ arrested three men ย who were later released without charge, pending instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
