More solar powered rubbish bins for Limerick City

Solar-powered refuse bin similar to the type being installed by Limerick City and County Council.

LIMERICK City and County Council has so far installed 76 solar powered compacting bins which automatically inform the cleansing team when a bin is full or empty.

As part of the refurbishment of O’Connell Street, a further 24 solar powered bins will be installed in the city centre when the €9 million project is completed.

In response to a question from Green Party councillor Saša Novak at last week’s Metropolitan District meeting, council members were informed that as more solar powered bins are installed in the future, they will also have the technology to provide real time information to the cleansing team.

Cllr Novak had called for a tagging system that will improve the current service by providing information that will inform the delivery of a more efficient service for the area.
