Limerick Gardaí warn of luggage thefts

GARDAÍ are warning travellers to keep an eye on their luggage on public transport after a suitcase belonging to a Ukrainian man was stolen as he travelled by train from Dublin to Limerick.

He put the bag in the luggage area in the carriage and took his seat but when he arrived at Colbert Station in Limerick City he found that the suitcase gone.

The theft was made even worse by the fact that the case contained valuable documents that are required for immigration purposes.

Limerick Garda Crime prevention officer, Sgt Ber Leetch said that it is safer to  store luggage in the overhead area.

“If the luggage is too big for the overhead area, you should check on it at every stop and watch that nobody removes it,” she advised.
