DPP decision awaited over Limerick death crash charges

A NEWCASTLE WEST man charged in connection with a fatal crash that claimed the life of a truck driver last March has been further remanded by a Limerick court.

Niall O’Halloran (55) of Woodfield Drive, Newcastle West is facing charges of alleged drink driving and dangerous driving resulting from a collision between a car and a truck in the early hours of March 18 last.

Arturs Birynieks, a father-of-two in his early 30s with addresses in Latvia and Knock County Mayo, was fatally injured at the scene of the crash at Killeheen, Rathkeale.

Mr O’Halloran, who was the only occupant of the car involved in the collision, was taken to hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Judge Carol Ann Collican was told that the instructions of the Director of Public Prosecutions are awaited in the matter.

She remanded Mr O’Halloran to appear before the court again on May 12.
