LIMERICK Fianna Fáil TD Willie O’Dea has called on city councillors to vote against the proposed Active Travel route on the South Circular Road.

He said that the proposed new cycle lane will make the lives of residents affected “almost intolerable” and says the council must recognise the democratic wish of those who will be affected most.

“90 per cent of the people who are going to be directly affected by the cycle lane on South Circular Road are completely against this proposal, because most of them believe it will make their everyday lives almost intolerable.

“Is there any point in having consultation with local residents if the same residents say no to the proposal and the council go ahead with their plans anyway?” he asked.
