A NEW superintendent has been assigned to take overall responsibility for criminal justice and court file management in the Limerick Garda Division.

As part of a series of changes announced by Commissioner Drew Harris on Friday, Superintendent Joanne O’Brien has taken over the Performance Assurance portfolio under the new divisional policing model which was introduced in Limerick last September.

Superintendent O’Brien, who took up her new last month at  Mayorstone Garda Station, replaces Supt Kieran Ruane who has been transferred to the Cahir Garda District.

Prior to her recent promotion, Supt O’Brien served in the West Cork Garda Division where she headed up the newly established Protective Services Unit (PSU) which deals with a range of sensitive crimes such as sexual assault, rape, domestic violence and human trafficking.
