Limerick Garda warning over investment fraud

GARDAÍ in Limerick are noticing an increase in reports of investment fraud with a particular emphasis on crypto currencies.

That’s according to Garda John Finnerty of the Crime Prevention Office in Henry Street Garda Station who said that if an investment opportunity sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

“A Limerick investor recently reported that he had been the victim of investment fraud, after investing a significant amount in “an entity he believed was a bona fide investment,” he said.

“The vast majority of these involve crypto currencies but this type of crime is believed to be under-reported due to embarrassment, not wanting close family members to know, a knowledge that the money is gone, and sometimes a hope being held out that the investment will come good in the end,” Garda Finnerty explained.
