A clean sweep for Limerick council

One of the mini sweepers deployed on Limerick’s cycling network.

LIMERICK City and County Council has deployed heavy artillery in its battle against litter with two large road sweepers, two mini sweepers and one small hot wash sweeper keeping the city clean.

The extent of the council’s cleaning equipment was outlined in response to a question from Social Democrats councillor Elisa O’Donovan at last week’s Metropolitan District meeting.

Senior Engineer Hugh McGrath said that the hot wash sweeper is mainly deployed on high quality pavements, for example the refurbished O’Connell Street and nearby streets.

“The mini sweepers are intended mainly for use on cycle lanes, however due to the absence of two compact (medium sized sweepers), they are also deployed in the city centre for general use on streets or laneways,” he explained.
