CAR OWNERS across Limerick are warned of a potential theft that has been reported across the county.

Owners of Toyota Prius cars in particular are warned of a potential risk of catalytic converter theft from their vehicles.

Catalytic converters have been stolen from cars in Newcastle West, Adare and Kildimo in recent times.

The Prius is particularly targeted because of how easy it is to remove the catalytic converter from this model of car.

Owners are advised to park as close to their house as possible, preferably in a garage so would-be thieves can’t access the car.

Other crime prevention tips from the Gardaí include to park in a well-lit area, park tightly behind another car if there are two cars in the house, or to park in such a way that thieves can’t jack up the car to get access to the underside of it.
