Students skydive for Limerick Mental Health Association

TWO University of Limerick students found that the sky wasn’t the limit when they undertook a six month work placement with the Limerick Mental Health Association.

When Poppy Mitchell and Roneta Brown saw the high demand for mental health services in the wake of the Covid pandemic, they decided to organise a sponsored skydive to help fund some of the services provided by the Association.

Roneta, who is from Tullamore and Poppy, who hails from Ballina in Mayo, will undertake the fundraising feat at the Irish Skydiving Club in Kilkenny on June 2.

It will be a particular challenge for Poppy, as she has a fear of heights.

“I am absolutely terrified. I have never done one before and I hate heights, so it will be very interesting,” she said.

Fundraising for a mental health charity is close to Poppy’s heart, as she has had her own struggles over the years.

“I’m no stranger to mental health struggles. I had issues of my own since I was 11 years old, so I know what it’s like to be in a bad place.

“I am really passionate about helping other people and I know how important it is to have good mental health, so I just want to help people,” she said.

Poppy and Roneta have set up a GoFundMe page with a goal of raising €5,000 and donations can be made here
