THE exhibition titled ‘Circus Act’ by Limerick artist Gavin Hogg opens at Spacecraft Project Space, near Limerick Milk Market (V94 HH34) this Friday April 21 (6pm).
The exhibition will run daily (except Sunday) from 11am until 5pm up to Saturday April 29. Circus Act features a commissioned performance and collaborative elements by Courtney Sharos.
Central to the exhibition ‘Circus Act’ is the ‘The Wall’, in which an illuminated doorway has been created in the shape of a coffin. Referencing the painting ‘My Death’ and the collograph print, ‘Death & Birth’. Over the course of the two-hour opening, Courtney Sharos will be traversing the doorway, intermittently blowing bubbles. Her head and feet extended into the gallery space.
“The imagery is influenced by Jungian symbolism. Where dreaming of death, is not about demise but rebirth, and the female figure is a symbol of the male anima. The anima in Jungian psychology being part of the male unconscious. A spirit guide to the unconscious dimensions of the mind.”
