Garryowen upset odds to win Munster Junior Cup

GARRYOWEN upset the odds to defeat Kilfeacle, 16-12, in the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Rugby Cup Final at Takumi Park, Rosbrien.

It represented a ninth success in the competition for the Light Blues. 

Colm Quilligan gave Garryowen the lead with an early penalty, but Kilfeacle hit back with a try from Keith Bourke, which Luke Heuston converted.

The winners then regained the lead on the half-hour mark with a try by David Murphy, but Jack McLaughlin got in for Kilfeacle’s second try on the stroke of half-time for a 12-8 lead.

Quilligan reduced the deficit to a point with a penalty early in the second half, and shortly afterwards Sam Farage put Garryowen ahead 17-12 with a try.

In a nail-biting finish, Garryowen’s defence stood firm as Kilfeacle did everything to save the game.
