Limerick men pick up more penalty points for speeding

LIMERICK women are more careful drivers than their male counterparts, according to the latest data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

The statistics show that the number of penalty point notices issued to Limerick motorists for speeding came to 5,460 in 2021.

Male drivers in the city and county received twice as many penalty points for speeding as women motorists – 3,503 and 1,957 respectively.

In the same year, 103 notices were issued to Limerick drivers of passenger vehicles for failure to wear their seat belt, with men much more likely than women to get penalty points for this offence. 73 of the 103 endorsements issued went to men. 

The total number of penalty points issued to motorists in Limerick came to 21,538 in 2021
