Injury rules Hannon out for All-Ireland semi-final

Limerick senior hurling captain Declan Hannon

FOUR-TIME All-Ireland winning Limerick senior hurling captain Declan Hannon has been ruled out of the upcoming semi-final at Croke Park on Saturday July 8 due to injury.

This comes after Hannon has struggled with injury and left the field early in the Munster Final defeat of Clare earlier this month.

In a brief update, Limerick GAA stated: โ€œDeclan sustained a knee injury during last Sundayโ€™s Munster Final that will rule him out for the All-Ireland semi-finalย in three weeksโ€™ย time.ย We wish him well in his recovery in the coming weeks and look forward to seeing him back on the field once again.โ€

Itโ€™s unclear whether or not surgery is required, that will be determined at a later date, but if Limerick were to reach another final (July 23) the 30-year-old Hannon may be under pressure to make the occasion.

For the next outing, Kyle Hayes is the obvious choice for centre-back, with Colin Coughlan coming off the bench to complete the line with Diarmaid Byrnes.

Itโ€™s anticipated that Limerick will meet either Galway or Tipperary in the highly anticipated semi-final next month.
