Injury rules Hannon out for All-Ireland semi-final

Limerick senior hurling captain Declan Hannon

FOUR-TIME All-Ireland winning Limerick senior hurling captain Declan Hannon has been ruled out of the upcoming semi-final at Croke Park on Saturday July 8 due to injury.

This comes after Hannon has struggled with injury and left the field early in the Munster Final defeat of Clare earlier this month.

In a brief update, Limerick GAA stated: “Declan sustained a knee injury during last Sunday’s Munster Final that will rule him out for the All-Ireland semi-final in three weeks’ time. We wish him well in his recovery in the coming weeks and look forward to seeing him back on the field once again.”

It’s unclear whether or not surgery is required, that will be determined at a later date, but if Limerick were to reach another final (July 23) the 30-year-old Hannon may be under pressure to make the occasion.

For the next outing, Kyle Hayes is the obvious choice for centre-back, with Colin Coughlan coming off the bench to complete the line with Diarmaid Byrnes.

It’s anticipated that Limerick will meet either Galway or Tipperary in the highly anticipated semi-final next month.
