A MAN has been arrested in connection with a number of fires that occurred in Limerick City in the early hours of Saturday morning (June 1).
Gardaรญ in Limerick confirmed that the man, described as being in his 20s, has been arrested and charged โin connection with suspected criminal damageโ following investigations into a number of reported fires in one area of the city.
A blaze destroyed the Sailorโs Home on OโCurry Street in Limerick City on Saturday, while there were reports of a car fire on the nearby junction of Henry Street, Lower Hartstonge Street, and Mounth Kenneth Place.
According to a statement from An Garda Sรญochรกna, Gardaรญ received reports around 1am on Saturday of a fire in an โunoccupied building and a nearby vehicle fire in the OโCurry Street area of Limerick Cityโ.
The fires were extinguished after efforts from the Limerick City Fire and Rescue Service, the Cappamore Fire Service, and Rathkeale Fire Service. No reports of injury have been made resulting from either fire.
The man has been arrested and charged and was expected to appear before a special sitting of Newcastle West District Court earlier this afternoon.
