Nationwide survey finds Limerick City is ‘moderately littered’

Limerick City was "littered" according to the latest IBAL survey, with "monumental dumping" noted at one site.

LIMERICK City is ‘moderately littered’ according to the latest nationwide survey by Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL).

Despite ranking a low 33rd on the list of Ireland’s cleanest cities and towns, the brand marks a minor improvement on the city’s previous position.

The ‘moderately littered’ label, according to IBAL, marks the city as being below the normal European level of cleanliness.

The Limerick City South area of Galvone placed 35th on the list, also being found as moderately littered.

An Taisce, who carry out the IBAL survey, said that “Limerick City’s performance was an improvement on six months ago, but still short of where it needs to be, with not enough clean sites”.

Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) was set up in 1996 and is an alliance of companies sharing a belief that continued economic prosperity – notably in the areas of tourism, food and direct foreign investment – is contingent on a clean, litter-free environment, according to their website.

They also say that they believe that “all citizens have the right to a clean living environment.”
