LIMERICK City and County Council faced questions about a proposed active travel scheme for the city centre at a recent Metropolitan District council meeting.

“When will an economic assessment be conducted for the Wickham Street/High Street area regarding the proposed Active Travel Scheme?” was the question on Fine Gael councillor Sarah Kiely’s mind at a recent Metropolitan District meeting.

“An Economic Assessment is to be conducted over the coming months for Wickham Street/High Street regarding the proposed Active Travel Scheme,” said Senior Executive Engineer with Active Travel Sean McGlynn.

“The estimated date for delivery of the report is November 2023. In recent weeks Active Travel has engaged specialists for counting movement and traffic in the area, along with a specialist to undertake the Economic Assessment.”

“Counting of movement and traffic will continue through summer and autumn while retail and local surveys are planned for September.”
