FOCUS IRELAND are calling on the people of Limerick to get moving this weekend to raise money for its homeless services.

The Focus Ireland ‘On the Move’ campaign is a series of fitness and adventure events, supported by Horizon Therapeutics, taking place along the Limerick Greenway on July 15, to raise vital funds.

The main event is a 37km cycle along the Greenway, in which participants will have the opportunity to pass through a Victorian-era railway tunnel, visit several ancient castles and abbeys, and bask in the solitude of a native forest.

Those taking part will also be treated with refreshments at the finish line on completion of the cycle.

A record 12,259 people are currently experiencing homelessness in Ireland, including 3,594 children. In comparison to 9,825 people at the same time last year, homelessness is rapidly increasing, according to Focus Ireland.

Pat Dennigan, CEO of Focus Ireland, said: “The number of people experiencing homelessness is continuously rising. There are 3,594 children now homeless in this country, now more than ever, we need support and help to raise vital funds for our work. ”

“Our specially trained staff are working hard to help to protect children from the trauma caused by homelessness and help families secure a home. Join us and register for your local event, or organise your own, as every effort will help make a difference,” he added.

Those interested in taking part can go to FocusIreland.ie and register, with all participants getting an ‘On the move’ t-shirt, fundraising materials, and support to help them reach their fundraising goals.

Anyone interested in supporting the cause can donate to Focus Ireland, or their local ‘On the Move’ fundraiser.
