SEBA Safe dropped his new single โRainyโ last month. The up and coming songwriter from Portumna has garnered significant airplay from BBCโs 6 Music, RTร 2FM (including Record of the Week from Tracy Clifford), and RTร Radio 1.
Talking about the song, Sabe says, โRainy is a song about simple and selfish wants. In it I talk about confidence, nostalgia, sex, relationships and progression as a person and artist.โ
The โRainyโ EP was recorded in Duncan Mills (Florence and The Machine, Jake Bugg and Jamie Callum) studio in London Fields last summer.
Seba explains, โThe Rainy EP for me is a personal reflection of a time where the world was in lockdown. These songs arenโt about the pandemic but a day-to-day reminder of what was happening in my own life and the country around me.
โDealing with themes of mental health, personal growth, friendships falling apart, immigration and love, I created five songs to allow me to see the whole picture of this time.
โDuncan Mills in London recorded and produced something that I will always be proud of.
โMy manager and brother Shea Tohillโs lead guitar moments turn this EP into something truly special. Being honest is all I strive for in songwriting and thatโs what Iโve done here.โ
Recent single โI Wonderโ has a haunting dreamlike quality until halfway, the song morphs into a pop bop courtesy of driving percussive beats.
Seba Safe explains the inspiration for the song saying,
โThis is like several diary entries from the last two years. The lyrics are very personal and deal with everyday thoughts, fears, hopes, loss and love.โ
Writing candidly, Seba Safeโs lyrics are wrapped in a sound that seamlessly combines elements of pop, folk and indie. His debut EP Map Runner established him as one of Irelandโs most promising songwriting talents and the Galwegian was quickly signed to indie label Nettwerk Records for a global deal.
Seba Safe plays Dolans on Sunday October 8.
