Increase in the amount of elderly renters in Limerick City and County

THERE has been a significant rise in the number of elderly people living in rented accommodation throughout Limerick City and County in the past few years.

According to figures released recently following the 2022 census, as many as 703 homes across the county are rented by people in the 65-and-over age group.

This figure marks an 81 per cent increase on levels reflected in the previous 2016 census.

In the 60 to 64 age group, the number of people living in rented accommodation increased by 78 percent, a jump above the national figure of 69 per cent.
