ACTION resumes in the Limerick Senior Hurling Championship across this coming weekend, with first up an extremely attractive tie between Patrickswell and Doon in Bruff tonight (Thursday) from 7pm.

Bruree’s Mike Sexton will referee.

The ‘Well, 20-time winners, stunned holders Na Piarsaigh in the opening round while elsewhere understrength Doon were easily put to the sword by Kilmallock. With Patrickswell fancied to collect back-to-back wins, such an outcome would put the easterner’s under immense qualification pressure ahead of a three-week competition break.

Hurler of the Year (HOTY) elect Aaron Gillane scored an important 1-6 for the ‘Well against the defending kingpins.

Elsewhere in the top flight tonight (Thursday), Ahane run up against Kilmallock in Doon. At the weekend, Ahane were superior to Kildimo/Pallaskenry (KP).

On Friday, KP bump into Na Piarsaigh in Claughaun.

In Group Two, Mungret/St Paul’s face Garryspillane in Cappamore on Friday, while the following afternoon (2pm) it’s Monaleen v South Liberties in Caherconlish and at lunchtime (1pm) on Sunday Adare and Ballybrown clash in Askeaton.

Meanwhile, Croagh/Kilfinny has lost a club stalwart with the passing of Tom Costello, Life President.

Before his arrival to Croagh, the Duagh native famously won an All-Ireland Senior Football medal with Kerry (1955).
