GARDAÍ have warned people to be vigilant when applying for a loan online.

This comes amid rising reports of personal loan scams, which involve internet users signing up for loans on unverified websites where they are asked to pay an upfront fee to secure their loan.

“Recently a number of people have fallen victim to personal loan scams. They paid this fee and only realised that the website was bogus when they received no correspondence ever again,” explained Henry Street Garda John Finnerty.

“The Central Bank of Ireland’s Register contains individual registers for all financial service providers regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland.”
