Councillors back plans to sell land to GAA club for €1

The portion of land to be sold to Knockainey Sportsfield Co-Operative.

COUNCILLORS in the Cappamore/Kilmallock Municipal District have backed plans to sell land in the Council’s ownership to a County Limerick GAA club for just €1.

At the last meeting of the Cappamore/Kilmallock Municipal Disctirct, councillors were briefed on plans to dispose of 0.0268 hectares of land to Knockainey Sportsfield Co-Operative Society.

The land in question forms a corner chunk of Knockainey GAA Grounds, which, likely due to historic mapping, is in the name of Limerick City and County Council (LCCC).

Councillors were told that the Council intends to dispose of the site, charging just €1 to Knockainey Sportsfield Co-Operative, as well as LCCC’s legal fees.

The proposed disposal will be added to the agenda for the full County Council meeting in September where councillors from all municipal districts will vote on it.

Also discussed at the last meeting of the Cappamore/Kilmallock MD was the disposal via a 25-year lease of 0.625 hectares of land to Kilmallock Tourism Development to give a base to Kilmallock Tourism Development’s Community Employment Scheme (CES) workers.

Having a base would enable the CES to engage in more work, as well as giving them the potential to set up training courses to aid the participants to return to the mainstream workforce, according to the council’s briefing document.

This land would also be leased for just €1.

Finally, the councillors were briefed on plans to dispose of the old library building in Caherconlish.

LCCC proposes to dispose of the building to Caherconlish Caherline Community Council.

The building was used as a part-time library until it closed over a decade ago. According to LCCC, the building is no longer needed by the Library Service.

Caherconlish Caherline Community Council are eager to give the building a new lease of life as a community space.

According to the briefing document, the building is of limited value as it does not have a kitchen or toilets, and it is proposed to be disposed of for a nominal amount.

All the disposals will now be included on the agenda of the September meeting of the County Council when councillors will either vote for or against.
