Teenage girl killed in road collision in Limerick City

A TEENAGE girl has died following a road incident in Limerick City. 

Gardaí are investigating the fatal traffic incident, which happened at around 11.40pm last night (Wednesday August 16) in the Bank Place area of Limerick City. 

The young girl was taken to University Hospital Limerick (UHL), suffering serious injuries after an incident involving a car. 

“The pedestrian, a female youth in her teens, was taken to University Hospital Limerick with serious injuries, where she has since passed away,” a statement from An Garda Síochána said. 

No other injuries from the collision have so far been reported.

The road at Bank Place remains closed this morning following the fatal incident, with local diversions in place while a Forensic Collision Investigation team conducts an examination of the scene. 

Drivers looking to access the city from the Dublin Road or Corbally directions are advised to divert via Michael Street.

Gardaí are appealling for any witnesses to the incident, including those who may have dash-cam footage, to come forward.
