Gardaí seize over €100,000 of hard drugs in Limerick City

GARDAÍ in Limerick seized over €100,000 worth of hard drugs and arrested two men in the city yesterday (Thursday).

€105,000 worth of suspected heroin, crack cocaine, and alprazolam was found during the search of a property in St Mary’s Park, conducted as part of Operation Tara.

Two men, aged in their 40s and 20s, were arrested in connection with the seizure.

They are currently being detained at a Garda station in Limerick city under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

The property was searched by Gardaí from the Limerick Divisional Drug Unit, along with members of the Regional Armed Support Unit.

€82,000 of suspected heroin was found, €20,000 of suspected crack cocaine, and €3,000 worth of alprazolam was found.

In a statement, Gardaí said: “Gardaí seized over €100,000 of suspected heroin, crack cocaine, and alprazolam, and arrested two men, during a search operation in Limerick City on Thursday 19th October 2023, conducted as part of Operation Tara.”

“Two men, aged in their 40s and 20s, were arrested as part of this
investigation and detained at a Garda station in Limerick city under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.”

“All of the drugs seized (totalling €105,000) will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis,” they concluded.
