THE valuable (Є30,000 to the winner) Willwego.com Irish St. Leger at Limerick has been reduced to 48 runners, following the completion of the opening round heats over the Halloween Bank Holiday Weekend.

Second round heats will be run at the venue this Saturday, 7.40pm onwards.

There were some brilliant performances in the opening round with the Pat Buckley (Doon) trained Ballinabola Una setting the bar high when recording 29.50, the fastest time of the night.

This lady was fast away and drew clear of her rivals to win by seven lengths with the 5/4 favourite Trinity Junior qualifying in third place.

It turned out to be a fantastic night for Buckley who sent out two more winners. Bobsleigh Syd was impressive to win in 29.74 on just his tenth career start.

The icing on the cake for team Buckley was when the defending champion Bobsleigh Dream redeemed herself after a slow start to win heat ten in 29.76, proving why she is one of the best in the country.

The biggest priced winner of the night was 20/1 shot Miss Mini Holly for trainer Thomas O’Donovan.

Knockainey GAA will host a fund-raiser at Limerick on Saturday week, November 11.
