A DELIVERY driver found herself the target of an opportunistic burglary in the early hours of last Saturday morning (November 11).

The robbery occurred as the driver was making a delivery to a shop on Patrick Street at around 7am last Saturday morning.

According to local Gardaí, the driver left her delivery van unlocked and returned at 7.22am to find that a thief had stolen her handbag, which she had left in the front of the van.

“The handbag contained money, her phone, and other personal items,” said Garda John Finnerty.

Garda Finnerty said that there has been a noticeable spate of similar robberies in Limerick City over the past number of weeks, and advised all delivery drivers to lock their vehicles each time they make a delivery, “even if it’s only for a few minutes”.

“There are many opportunistic criminals out there who will target vehicles left unlocked even if only for short periods of time and even in the early morning as we have seen in this instance.”

Investigating Gardaí in Henry Street are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the robbery of the driver’s white-coloured van between 7am and 7.22am last Saturday to make themselves known on 061 212 400.
