GARADÍ in Limerick are investigating two separate robberies that were reported in the city last week.

The first occurred at the People’s Park when a woman in her 60s was walking through the park on Wednesday November 29 at around 4pm.

According to Gardaí, a man who was unknown to her approached her from behind and attempted to grab her handbag.

The woman screamed and the man dropped the bag and fled the scene on foot.

Gardaí say the woman provided a good description of the assailant, and force members at Roxboro Garda Station are continuing to investigate.

On the same day and not far from the scene of the first incident, a separate robbery took place outside the Model School on O’Connell Avenue.

Between 4pm and 5pm, a woman in her 50s was walking by the Model School when a man approached her and attempted to grab her handbag.

The woman managed to hold onto her bag, but the man opened the bag and took the woman’s purse and ran off with it.

The man ran in the direction of Ballinacurra with the woman’s purse, which was later located by a passerby.

All of the woman’s cards were intact, but her cash was missing from her purse, Gardaí said.

Gardaí at Roxboro Garda Station investigating both incidents and  have appealed for any witnesses to contact them on 061 214 320.
