HURLER-of-the-year Aaron Gillane is a tempting 200/1 to be named RTÉ’s Sports Person of the Year at the weekend.

The gifted Patrickswell star faces strong opposition for the accolade, with boxer Katie Taylor still the odds-on choice with bookmakers Boylesports.

Of late, there has been some punting on gymnast Rhys McClenaghan of Antrim.

Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “We have seen a significant gamble in recent days on Antrim’s Rhys McCleneghan who has been slashed into 2/1 from odds of 66/1 with BoyleSports. Katie Taylor will have to dust off her gloves as she has a real fight on her hands to win her third such Award.”
