Local Premier League thrown open by Fairview Rangers win

THERE are a plethora of teams in contention to win out the Premier League, with the eye-catching 1-0 home win of Fairview Rangers against Pike Rovers really throwing open the competition.

Kane Connolly scored the priceless goal on 70 minutes.

Both sides are locked together in third spot.

Non-playing Aisling Annacotty are now joined at the top by Regional United, 2-0 weekend winners at Newport. The goals arrived through Brian O’Connor and Tommy Frawley, his third of the season.

The joint leaders are on 25 points apiece from 11 fixtures.

In the Munster Junior Cup, Aisling and Mungret Regional exited at the hands of St Michael’s and Avenue United, respectively.

There is a break in local fixtures until the first weekend in January.

The transfer window is open from January 1 to 28.

In the Desmond League, holders Rathkeale were beaten 2-1 by Glin Rovers in the semi-final of the Premier Division Cup, with the winner from the ageless Gary Culhane. In the other semi, Dáire O’Shea and Nigel O’Connor both netted for Athea United in their 2-1 defeat of Breska Rovers.

Askeaton-Kilcornan and Ballingarry meet in the Division One League Cup Final at Mick Hanley Park on Friday (7.30pm).
