ORGANISERS of a special memorial fundraiser say that everyone is invited to attend the annual ‘Thumbs Up for Benny’ soccer tournament on St Stephen’s Day at the South Liberties GAA club in Ballyneety.

The tournament will benefit Milford Care Centre and is staged in memory of the late Benny (Brendan) McNamara from Ballyneety, who died tragically at the age of 25 in 2018. Each year since his death, the young man’s friends, who formed the ‘Thumbs Up for Benny’ mental health awareness group, have organised charity event in his memory.

Once again this year, there will be up to 80 players from all over Limerick, raising money for a good cause on a great family day out.

Now in its sixth year, tournament will also remember local man Donal ‘Toggy’ Treacy.

Donations can be made in any amount, however small, at idonate.ie/fundraiser/ThumbsUpForBenny13.

Last year €5,200 was raised for Limerick Suicide Watch and organisers are hoping to match that amount for Milford this year.
