‘Pure gent’ to be laid to rest after tragic accident on East Limerick farm

TRIBUTES have been paid to the local farmer who tragically lost his life on a farm in East Limerick earlier this week.

Thomas (Tom) Childs, of Kilscanlon, Galbally, County Limerick, died after a reported accident believed to have taken place at his family farm near Galbally in East Limerick.

The 65-year-old was pronounced dead at the farm on Tuesday afternoon (January 16), after which he was taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem was to take place on Wednesday.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the tragic accident, and the Health and Safety Authority will conduct an investigation into the late farmer’s death.

Tributes were paid from across the county and beyond, with many describing the late Mr Childs as a “pure gent” and expressing heartfelt condolences to the Childs and Hennessy families.

Mr Childs is survived by beloved wife Eleanor (née Hennessy), daughters Elaine and Melissa, brother Richie, sisters Ann, Betty, Catherine, Emma, Rita, and Veronica, his brothers and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, and a wide circle of neighbours and friends.

He will be reposing at his home in Kilscanlan (E34 WF90) on Saturday (January 20) from 4pm to 8pm. A reception into the Church of Christ the King in Galbally will be held on Sunday morning followed by Mass at 10.30am, after which Mr Childs will be laid to rest in the local cemetery.
