Rising star O’Brien picks up injury

SHANE O’Brien has emerged as an early season injury concern after he limped-off after Mary Immaculate College overcame UCC, 1-24 to 0-20, at home in the Fitzgibbon Cup (Colleges Hurling) on Wednesday.

Over the hour, O’Brien knocked over five points. O’Brien featured with Limerick in the recent Munster Senior Hurling League defeat of Clare in Clarecastle.

Devon Ryan of Tipperary greatly impressed for Mary I with a nine point contribution.

Mary I goalkeeper is Jason Gillane (Patrickswell), while reserves include Oisín O’Farrell (Askeaton) and Vince Harrington (Na Piarsaigh)

Elsewhere, Brian Ryan’s University of Limerick posted a comfortable (2-30 to 1-13) win over TUS at Maguire’s Fields.

Gearóid Ryan of Tipperary (0-10), top-scored for a UL side whose starting selection included goalkeeper Conor Hanly-Clarke (Kilmallock), Fergal O’Connor (Effin), Colin Coughlan (Ballybrown), Brian O’Grady (Kilteely/Dromkeen), Adam English (Doon) and Aidan O’Connor, Ballybrown.
