Love Island – What’s hot and what’s not on Ireland’s favourite love to hate reality show

LOVE Island is officially back and we’re here for it. The reality TV show started its winter series last week with all-stars from previous seasons returning to the villa in an attempt to find love.

The show always curates its own sense of fashion from the swimwear, night-time looks and date outfits on the show to the brand deals and styles we see from the stars after their time in the villa.

The all-stars are well used to being in the public eye and have already developed their own individual styles, but, I can’t lie, I’m not a fan of every look I’ve seen so far on the show. That being said, there are some fashion choices I am obsessed with. I’ve put together a list of my hots and nots from the Love Island fashion so far this season.

Hot: Co-ords
Co-ords have been massive on the show this year so far for dates and evening wear. I am absolutely obsessed with some of the looks we’ve seen. Kaz stunned in a beautiful skin-toned top and mini-skirt matching set for one of the evenings last week.
I loved this look so much I tracked it down and found it’s available from Oh Polly!
Similarly, Georgia Steele wore a beautiful two-toned skirt and top co-ord as she headed out of the villa for a date. I loved the simplicity of her co-ord in contrast to Kaz’ with just the block colour and the white trim. It really shows the versatility of this trend and how you can bend it to fit your own fashion sense.

Not: Mustard
I’ve seen a lot of this colour from the boys on the show this year and it’s just not something I can get on board with.
Toby wore a mustard knitted jumper on one of the first nights of the villa and it brought me back to 2016-2017 when the colour was trending and everywhere.
Chris also opted for mustard in the form of a knitted vest and, while I love the vest look, it’s just the colour I’m not loving.
I’ve seen some of the boys over the past week wearing jackets and jumpers with the mustard colour as an accent which looks great unfortunately the full block colour mustard isn’t something I am loving onscreen this year.

Hot: Chunky Sunglasses
I am loving the big sunglasses we’re seeing on our screens. The girls this year all seem to be sporting chunky frame sunglasses with detailing on the leg and it’s reminding me of the early 2000’s in the best way. I love the way the bold frames become part of the outfit and a fashion statement on their own.

Not: Flower collars
I have seen so much of this not just on Love Island but in the fashion world in general over the past few months and, to be brutally honest, I hate it. I’ve seen it where dresses come with a separate flower piece to wear around the neck or it’s built into the neckline of the dress. I’ve seen a lot of this from Islanders so far this year in the form of full flower collars, such as Georgia Harrison in the first episode of the series or a more subtle detail on a dress we’ve seen from islanders such as Kaz. It’s just a trend I really can’t warm to.

Hot: Leather Looks
The Love Island boys have been really stylish this season and I am so here for it. One really cool look I’ve seen on a few of the boys is an all-leather look. Luis wore a khaki toned leather shirt and pants in one of the early episodes of the show last week and we’ve seen a similar shirt style from Toby this season as well.
We are used to seeing girls rock the leather look and it’s really nice to see leather creeping into men’s fashion too.

Not: Sheer mesh jumpsuits
Only a few episodes in and this is something I have seen a lot of this season already. The girls are absolutely stunning but the sheer mesh jumpsuits I’ve seen on Hannah, Georgia, and Demi are one of my least favourite fashion trends from this season. While I love the look of sheer mesh, I think the full body outfits we are seeing are a little bit overwhelming. I’d love to see a little more of this trend in just a top or trouser version rather than the whole-body look.
