SHANNON Airport reported a huge surge in growth with almost two million passengers passing through the airport in 2023.

The airport saw the highest number of passengers (1.95 million) travel through its terminals since 2009.

The welcome boost marks a 29 per cent increase in passenger flow recorded across 2022.

According to the Shannon Airport Group, there was a 41 per cent (745k) uptick in passengers travelling to and from Continental Europe from Shannon last year, a 31 per cent increase (838k) in UK flights, while transatlantic travel rose by 24 per cent (296k).

The group predicts further growth in transatlantic travel throughout 2024 with the return of seasonal daily services to New York’s JFK International Airport in May, also bolstered by the daily service to Chicago launched in May 2023.
