Under the astute management of Declan Nash (Kildimo-Pallaskenry), University of Limerick swept past TU Dublin in the final of the Third Level Ashbourne Cup at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence.

Eimear McGrath (2-3) of Tipperary and Waterford’s Mairead O’Brien (2-1) were UL’s top scorers.

The team featured Stephanie Woulfe (Templeglantine), Ailbe Larkin (Mungret St Pauls), Caoimhe Lyons (Monaleen), and Áine O’Tiarnaigh (Na Piarsaigh). For Lyons, it was an astonishing fifth Ashbourne medal win.

Limerick, meanwhile, open their National Junior League campaign away to Dublin at the weekend.

Limerick are again under the management of Dave Deady (Bruree), and this season the captaincy is in the capable hands of Ann Kennedy of Ahane.
