13 horses seized by Limerick council officials this week

Figures were highest in Limerick in 2016 with 209 horses seized.

13 HORSES were seized by Limerick City and County Council from a location on the Childers Road outside Limerick City.

A statement from the local authority said that 13 horses, aged from foals to four years old, were sized in the Childers Road area on February 21.

“The identify of the owner or keepers of the horses is not known to the council,” the statement read.

This comes following news that more than 1,000 horses were seized in Limerick since 2016.

Animals detained by the local authority are held for five days before being disposed of in accordance with the Control of Horses Act, 1996, with most being rehomed to horse charities.
