Aontú campaigner calls for apprentices to be included in minimum wage legislation

AONTÚ campaigner and local election candidate Sarah Beasley is calling for apprentices to be included in the national minimum wage legislation, saying that those involved in the sector are struggling to make ends meet.

“The weekly pay of an apprentice technician is in the region of €212 per week, from which they must pay out expenses such as travel, car costs and tools,” Ms Beasley commented.

“They are earning less than the national minimum wage and this is not right in any make, shape, or form.”

“We are losing a hugely valuable cohort of workers, and we badly need these people as so many trades are experiencing a lack of staff.”
