Limerick man guest starts Boston Marathon to celebrate Golden Jubilee of his win

Limerick man Neil Cusack won the Boston Marathon 50 years ago.

On the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of his historic win in the event, Limerick legend Neil Cusack was the guest starter for the 40,000 field in the Boston Marathon on Monday.

This year’s winner collected $150,000 but Cusack’s famous triumph of 1974 pre-dated the professional era.

“There isn’t a backdated cheque there for me by any chance?” Cusack recently joked with the event co-ordinator, according to a great interview given by him to Cathal Dennehy in the Sunday Independent.
