A POLISHED troop of debaters from Hazelwood College in Drumcollogher took top prize at the All-Ireland Concern Debates, held on May 2 in the Helix in Dublin.
The winning team of Aisling O’Connor, Amy O’Gorman, Regina Burke, and Lucy O’Gorman beat out competitors from Ursuline Secondary School in Thurles, facing off in a debate on the lofty challenge of achieving world peace in the 21st Century.
Congratulations poured in from far and wide, including from Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times journalist and Broadford man Malachy Browne, uncle of Regina Burke, who said he was “very proud” of his award-winning niece.
