CRIME Prevention Officer at Henry Street Garda Station, Sergeant Ber Leetch, says she has noticed a trend of late involving criminals smashing the windows of local businesses to gain entry.

Sergeant Leetch says a number of local shops, cafรฉs, car park offices, bars, and even a church shop have had their windows smashed by thieves who then proceed to raid the contents of the businessโ€™ cash register.

โ€œThey have correctly guessed that there will be a float of cashโ€ and are โ€œgone in minutesโ€, she said.

Sergeant Leetch warned local retailers that their tills should be left empty and open overnight, and that cash floats should be kept in a safe or away from the premises when stores are closed.
