Limerick businesses urged to ensure no cash left overnight amid increase of break-ins

Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Ber Leetch.

CRIME Prevention Officer at Henry Street Garda Station, Sergeant Ber Leetch, says she has noticed a trend of late involving criminals smashing the windows of local businesses to gain entry.

Sergeant Leetch says a number of local shops, cafés, car park offices, bars, and even a church shop have had their windows smashed by thieves who then proceed to raid the contents of the business’ cash register.

“They have correctly guessed that there will be a float of cash” and are “gone in minutes”, she said.

Sergeant Leetch warned local retailers that their tills should be left empty and open overnight, and that cash floats should be kept in a safe or away from the premises when stores are closed.
