AN INFORMATION booklet outlining the historic new role of Ireland’s first directly-elected mayor is being posted to residents across Limerick.

The booklet is part of a wider information campaign to raise awareness about what the new role of directly-elected mayor will entail, what powers and responsibilities the new role will have, and what the key differences will be between the previous system and the new one.

The people of Limerick are set to make history by being the first voters in Ireland to directly elect a mayor for their city and county.

The legislation to allow for this was signed into law on March 6 this year, and the election will take place alongside local and European elections on June 7.
