
THOUSANDS of students across Limerick City and County yesterday rolled up to meet the challenge as the Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate exams got underway.
2,953 students in Limerick will sit their Leaving Certificate exams this year, with 215 students sitting Leaving Cert Applied exams, while 3,051 students will sit their Junior Certificate Exams.
Nationally, a record number of 136,160 students will sit the Junior Certificate, Leaving Cert, and Leaving Cert Applied exams this year, the State Examinations Commission (SEC) has confirmed.
English paper one was the first exam that both Leaving Cert and Junior Cert students faced on Wednesday morning, with Leaving Certificate students taking on English paper two on Thursday afternoon.
For Junior Cert students, religion was their second paper of the day on Wednesday, with Irish and geography following on Thursday.
Friday (June 7) will see Leaving Cert students take on geography, followed by maths paper one in the afternoon.
For the junior cycle students, Friday will see history and maths papers handed out.
The state examinations will run until June 17 for junior cycle students, while the Leaving Certificate will run until June 25.
Martin Sisk, interim chair of the State Examinations Commission said that “there is no doubt that the State Examinations are a landmark event in the lives of young people and their families.
“On behalf of my fellow Commissioners and all of the staff of the SEC, I wish to offer sincere best wishes to all those taking the certificate examinations this year and also to the parents, guardians, and families who have supported candidates through their educational journey up to this point.”
Leaving Certificate and Leaving Certificate Applied candidates can expect to receive their results on Friday, August 23, while the date for the release of the Junior Certificate exam results has yet to be announced.
