Limerick man takes a long walk for Brú Columbanus

Kevin Quaid.

A GENEROUS Limerick man is organising a fundraising walk for a charity that offers a place to stay for those who have a loved one in hospital in Cork.

Kevin Quaid is organising Walk for Brú, a charitable stroll in aid of Brú Columbanus in Cork, a facility that offers family members of people who are seriously ill a place to stay while their loved ones are in hospital.

Brú Columbanus is based in Wilton, close to Cork University Hospital (CUH), and allows family members of seriously ill patients to stay close by.

Though based in Cork City, Brú Columbanus caters for families of patients who live at least 48 kilometres away from the hospital, with a large number of their residents being from Limerick, Mr Quaid told the Limerick Post.

The charity is entirely self-funded and relies hugely on donations, with Mr Quaid’s fundraising event aiming to raise as much money for the orgaisation as possible.

The Walk for Brú will take place on the Limerick Greenway on September 28, staring outside Platform 22 Cafe in Barnagh.

From there, a bus will take participants to the Newcastle West greenway hub, where they will undertake a 10km Greenway walk, finishing back at Platform 22 for snacks and refreshments.

Tickets for the event are €30, with funds going towards Brú Columbanus.

Those who wish to take part can register by phone on 021 434 5752 or online at brucolumbanus.com/events.

Those who can’t take part but still wish to make a donation can do so on idonate.ie/event/walkforbru.
