A MAN was remanded on bail before Limerick Circuit Criminal Court for sentencing after he pleaded guilty to performing sex acts on a young girl at a number of hotels in the Treaty City.
The man, who cannot be named because of a court order prohibiting the reporting of his identity, pleaded guilty to two counts of defilement of a child under the age of 17.
The man was 35 at the time and the girl was 15 years old.
The man carried out the sex acts on the girl at a hotel in the city and at a hotel on the outskirts of the city on two separate dates in July 2020.
The man had been facing a total of five charges, however the State accepted guilty pleas to two of these counts and entered a nolle prosequi on the remaining three counts.
State prosecuting counsel John OโSullivan told Judge Colin Daly that the defendant was now subject to โwhat is commonly referred to as a sex offenders registerโ because he had pleaded guilty to the offences.
This requires that the man inform Gardaรญ of any change in his address.
The manโs barrister, senior counsel Mark Nicholas, asked that the man not be identified at this point, adding that the matter of identification โcan be reviewed again, obviouslyโ.
Mr Nicholas said there was a โco-accusedโ male in the case and that evidence had not yet been heard in court.
Mr OโSullivan agreed that โat this juncture, the accusedโs name should not be identifiedโ.
Judge Colin Daly ordered reporting restrictions in the case and he remanded the defendant on bail to appear before Limerick Circuit Criminal Court for sentencing in December.
A co-accused man, who is facing one count of committing a sex act on a girl, in July 2020, has yet to indicate a plea.
