IRELAND South MEP Seán Kelly has condemned the Taliban’s escalating oppression of women in Afghanistan.
Leader of Fine Gael in the European Parliament, Kelly is calling for decisive international action to address the grave human rights violations being perpetrated under Taliban rule.
“The situation for women and girls in Afghanistan is beyond dire,” Kelly said.
“Since the Taliban took power in August 2021, we have witnessed an intentional and systemic campaign to erase women from public life.

“The restrictions on education, work, and even basic freedoms such as movement are a clear attempt to impose gender apartheid,” Mr Kelly said.
