Poor weekend for local sides in Munster Senior Cup action

LIMERICK’S two representatives in weekend action in the Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Cup exited from the prized competition.

Shannon fell to a 45-5 home loss to Nenagh Ormond in Coonagh, while, Clonmel were 43-12 winners over UL Bohemian in Annacotty.

A second-half try from David Smith was the only score by Shannon, who were 24-nil in arrears at the interval.

Weekend try scorers for Bohs were Liam Shanahan and Luca Cleary.

Meanwhile, there was a big shock at Dooradoyle as Division 2A side Instonians reached the final of the Bateman Cup, where they will face Lansdowne, after a 24-19 victory.

The Ulster side led 12-5 at half-time with Des Fitzgerald scoring the Garryowen try.

Instonians extended their lead to 17-5 but two yellow cards saw the visitors reduced to 13.

Garryowen were awarded two penalty tries to lead 19-17, but a late converted try for Instonians saw them book their spot in the decider.
